How to connect LinkedIn Ads to ChatGPT

Porter’s LinkedIn Ads connector for ChatGPT takes 3 steps, with no code and no LinkedIn developer app. Connect your ad accounts in Porter, add one MCP URL to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server, then sign in and ask. Porter’s guide on how to connect LinkedIn Ads to ChatGPT also has screenshots. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard ChatGPT uses to connect to tools such as Porter.

Before you start

  • You need a LinkedIn login with a role on the ad account, as well as a free Porter account and a ChatGPT plan that supports custom MCP servers. Viewer is enough to read, while campaign changes need Campaign Manager or Account Manager.
  • Custom MCP servers are in beta in ChatGPT on the web, so set up Porter and ask your questions from a browser. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, an admin or owner turns on developer mode, and then ChatGPT can also make the changes you confirm. On Pro, you turn on developer mode yourself, and ChatGPT reads and recommends (OpenAI’s guide to custom MCP apps).
  • Works in ChatGPT on the web (chatgpt.com, custom MCP servers in beta) and in Codex, with the same Porter MCP URL.
  1. Step 1: Connect LinkedIn Ads in Porter

Sign up free at Porter, pick LinkedIn Ads as the source and then sign in with LinkedIn. Tick every ad account ChatGPT should read (accounts you don’t tick show as needing reconnection), then pick ChatGPT as the destination.

  2. Step 2: Add the LinkedIn Ads connector to ChatGPT

Then, in ChatGPT, open Customize › Plugins, click Add and choose Add custom MCP server. On Business, an admin does this from Workspace settings › Apps › Create. Name it Porter Metrics, paste this URL as the Server URL and keep OAuth as the authentication:

    MCP URL
    https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp

Tick “I understand and want to continue”, then select Create as a plugin.

  3. Step 3: Ask ChatGPT about LinkedIn Ads

Next, select Continue to Porter Metrics, sign in to Porter and click Allow Access. Then select Try in chat and paste this prompt:

    Prompt
List my LinkedIn ad accounts and show Spent, Impressions, Clicks and Leads by Campaign Name for the last 7 full days. Calculate CTR and cost per lead yourself.

02Use cases and prompts

What you can ask ChatGPT

Each use case comes with a prompt to copy, the fields it uses from the LinkedIn Ads fields list and who it’s for. The prompts have ChatGPT work out CTR, CPC and cost per lead from raw counts, as Porter’s tests advise. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, ChatGPT can also make the changes you confirm; on Pro it reads and recommends.

Can ChatGPT show which campaigns bring leads at the lowest cost?

The problemOne campaign group fills the pipeline while another buys clicks that never become leads, and you line them up by hand.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT pulls Spent, Leads, Impressions and Clicks by campaign group and campaign, then works out cost per lead and CTR. It also flags every campaign whose cost per lead runs more than 20% above the account’s.

What you getYou move budget toward the campaigns that bring cheap leads, from one table instead of a weekly export.

Prompt
For the last 30 days, show Campaign Group Name, Campaign Name, Campaign Objective Type, Spent, Impressions, Clicks and Leads. Calculate CTR and cost per lead (Spent ÷ Leads) for each campaign and the account, then flag campaigns whose cost per lead is more than 20% above the account's.

Can ChatGPT tell you which job titles, seniorities and company sizes your LinkedIn ads reach?

The problemYou pay LinkedIn prices to reach decision-makers, but you suspect junior staff and students do most of the clicking.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT splits Spent, Impressions, Clicks and Leads into audience breakdowns, one dimension at a time per campaign. Then it flags segments that spend without bringing leads. LinkedIn’s audience numbers are approximate and skip small segments, so compare segments with each other rather than with the account total.

What you getYou can exclude the seniorities and job functions that spend without leads before they take another month of budget.

Prompt
For my lead generation campaigns in the last 30 days, show Campaign Name, Seniority, Spent, Impressions, Clicks and Leads. Calculate cost per lead per seniority and list seniorities with more than $500 Spent and 0 Leads.
Then ask
Prompt
Now run the same breakdown by Job Function, then by Company Size, as separate tables.

Can ChatGPT show which target companies saw and clicked your LinkedIn ads?

The problemSales handed you a target account list, and now they want to know which of those companies actually saw the ads.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT lists companies by Impressions and Clicks per campaign. If you paste in your target account list, it marks the accounts with no impressions. LinkedIn’s company breakdown can also include companies you didn’t target, such as a member’s previous employer.

What you getSales gets a straight answer on account coverage, while you see which target companies need a different campaign.

Prompt
For campaign {Campaign Name} in the last 30 days, show Member Company Name, Impressions, Clicks and Spent. Compare it with this target account list: {paste list}. Which target companies had 0 impressions, and which clicked at least twice?

Fields used: Campaign NameMember Company NameImpressionsClicksSpent

Can ChatGPT spot creatives that are wearing out?

The problemLinkedIn audiences are small, so the same decision-makers see your ad week after week until they stop clicking.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT pulls weekly Impressions and Clicks per creative, works out CTR, then flags creatives whose CTR fell two weeks in a row. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, it can also pause them.

What you getYou replace tired creatives before they push up the whole campaign’s cost per lead.

Prompt
For the last 8 weeks, by Week, Campaign Name, Creative Id and Creative Title, show Impressions, Clicks and Spent. Calculate weekly CTR and flag creatives whose CTR dropped more than 25% two weeks in a row.
Then ask
Prompt
Pause the flagged creatives after I confirm, and show me each one first.

Can ChatGPT find where LinkedIn Lead Gen Form opens don't turn into leads?

The problemPlenty of people open your Lead Gen Form, but far fewer submit it, and you can’t tell which ad or form is losing them.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT divides Leads by One Click Lead Form Opens for each campaign and creative. Then it adds cost per lead and ranks the forms that lose the most people.

What you getYou know which form to shorten, or which ad promises something the form doesn’t, instead of guessing from total leads.

Prompt
For the last 30 days, by Campaign Name and Creative Title, show One Click Lead Form Opens, Leads and Spent. Calculate form completion rate (Leads ÷ One Click Lead Form Opens) and cost per lead, and list the 10 creatives with the lowest completion rate and at least 50 form opens.

Can ChatGPT pace LinkedIn campaign budgets and change them?

The problemMid-month, a campaign group is already ahead of its budget, but nobody notices until the client asks.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT reads each campaign’s daily budget and Spent by day, then projects month-end spend from the last 7 days. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, it can also change a campaign’s daily budget.

What you getYou catch overspend while there’s still time to fix it, not when the invoice arrives.

Prompt
This month, by Date and Campaign Name, show Spent and Campaign Daily Budget Amount, plus Campaign Group Name and Campaign Group Total Budget Amount. Using the last 7 days' average Spent, which campaigns will overspend their group's total budget by month-end, and by how much?
Then ask
Prompt
Lower the daily budget of the campaign most likely to overspend so it lands on budget. Show me the new amount before you change it.

Can ChatGPT build a LinkedIn campaign from a brief?

The problemThe brief is approved, so now someone has to click through Campaign Manager setting seniorities, job functions and industries one by one.

What ChatGPT doesOn Business, Enterprise or Edu, ChatGPT creates a campaign group, a Sponsored Content campaign with budget, schedule and targeting, as well as ads from your company page posts. You add Lead Gen Forms and new post content in Campaign Manager as usual.

What you getYou review a complete campaign instead of building it field by field.

Prompt
Create a draft campaign group 'Q1 CFO Benchmark' and a draft Sponsored Content campaign in it with a $150 daily budget starting {date}, targeting seniorities Director and VP, job function Finance, industries Software and Financial Services, United States. Can ChatGPT compare cost per lead with Meta Ads in one table?

The problemLeadership asks if LinkedIn’s pricier leads are worth it next to Meta, but the two platforms report in different shapes.

What ChatGPT doesAdd the Meta Ads connector for ChatGPT in Porter too, and ChatGPT puts spend, leads and cost per lead side by side by platform and campaign. Each platform counts leads its own way, so compare cost per lead rather than totals.

What you getThe budget split between LinkedIn and Meta starts from one cost-per-lead table instead of two exports.

Prompt

03Why Porter

Why Porter for LinkedIn Ads in ChatGPT

LinkedIn’s own LinkedIn Ads app in ChatGPT, in beta, fits performance reporting, per OpenAI’s LinkedIn Ads plugin for ChatGPT page. Porter adds 226 tested fields, campaign changes you confirm on Business, Enterprise or Edu, and your other ad platforms in the same chat. You can run both.

✓

One URL, nothing to host

Sign in with LinkedIn in Porter and add one URL to ChatGPT on the web. A self-hosted server needs a LinkedIn app that passes LinkedIn’s Advertising API application review, plus hosting.

⊞

Changes you confirm

On Business, Enterprise or Edu, ChatGPT creates campaign groups, campaigns and ads as drafts, pauses or activates them and changes budgets, bids, schedules and targeting, each after you confirm. On Pro it reads and recommends.

⚙

226 ready-made fields

ChatGPT gets 226 fields across campaigns, creatives, leads, conversions, video, Reach and job title, seniority and company breakdowns. Porter tests which fields return data, so every prompt here uses ones that do.

Aa

LinkedIn next to Meta and Google

Ask about LinkedIn Ads next to Meta Ads, Google Ads, GA4, HubSpot and 20+ more sources under the same field names, so a budget split starts from one table.

↻

Every ad account in one answer

One LinkedIn login brings in every ad account it has a role on, and ChatGPT compares them with Account Name as a column.

✓

Tokens and API versions handled

Porter handles LinkedIn sign-in, 60-day tokens and LinkedIn’s monthly Marketing API versions, so your connection keeps working without upkeep.

⊞

Ten years of campaign history

LinkedIn keeps 10 years of performance data, and Porter reads all of it. ChatGPT gets yearly totals back to 2016 on paid plans, so you can compare this year’s spend and leads with any past year.

⚙

Live dashboards, not only chat answers

Ask ChatGPT for a dashboard and Porter’s AI dashboards publish it at its own link, synced automatically and ready to share. Official MCP servers answer inside the chat and stop there.

Can ChatGPT pause, edit or create LinkedIn Ads campaigns?

On Business, Enterprise and Edu plans, yes, after you confirm. ChatGPT creates campaign groups, campaigns and ads from existing posts, then pauses or activates all three. It also changes names, budgets, bids, schedules and targeting.

To change an ad's text, ChatGPT creates a new ad from a new post, while lead forms, Matched Audiences and conversion rules stay in Campaign Manager as usual. On Pro, ChatGPT reads the account and lists the changes for you to make in Campaign Manager.

How fresh is the data, and how far back?

Performance data reaches ChatGPT in near real time, including today as a partial day. Audience breakdowns, however, arrive 12–24 hours later (LinkedIn's reporting retention and delays). LinkedIn keeps 10 years of performance data, compared to 2 years of audience data. Porter's free plan covers the last 15 days in ChatGPT (30 days in Data Studio and Sheets), while paid plans have no history cap.

07Security

Is it safe?

Yes, with confirmations: the LinkedIn Ads connector for ChatGPT shows every change before Porter sends it, and only on Business, Enterprise or Edu. New campaign groups, campaigns and ads are created as drafts that don't serve or spend, while only drafts can be deleted. Porter signs in through LinkedIn's OAuth, then acts only with the role you already have on the ad account.

How you approve changes

ChatGPT asks you to confirm changes based on the app's permissions and holds back some high-risk actions for extra care. It lists each change first, such as a new daily budget or a paused creative, and you activate drafts from the top down: campaign group, then campaign, then ad. Deletes are permanent, so check each one before you confirm.

Porter enables each ad account for changes once, and until then LinkedIn refuses the change, so nothing in the account is modified.

What the connector needs from LinkedIn Ads

Porter needs a LinkedIn sign-in with a role on the ad account, because that role decides what ChatGPT can change (LinkedIn ad account roles). Viewer reads reports. Creative Manager can change ads, while Campaign Manager or Account Manager can change campaigns and ads.

LinkedIn access lasts 60 days and renews for up to a year, then you sign in again (LinkedIn's 60-day access tokens).

08FAQ

FAQ

Before connecting, B2B marketers ask about Claude, several ad accounts, organic posts, Sponsored Messaging and conversions. The last three help when numbers don't match, a question fails or a change is blocked.

Can I use Porter in Claude too?

Yes. Porter's MCP URL, the same one behind the LinkedIn Ads connector for ChatGPT, also works in Claude as a custom connector, so one LinkedIn login serves both. See Porter's LinkedIn Ads connector for Claude for the Claude setup and what it covers.

Can I connect several LinkedIn ad accounts, say as an agency?

Yes, because one LinkedIn login brings every ad account it has a role on into Porter. Then ChatGPT compares them in one answer with Account Name as a column. Porter bills each ad account once it returns data, so an agency can start with a few clients and add more later.

Does the LinkedIn Ads connector include company page posts and followers?

Organic company page posts and followers come from Porter's LinkedIn Pages connector for ChatGPT, while the LinkedIn Ads connector covers paid campaigns. Both connect the same way, so they share one chat and ChatGPT puts organic and paid results side by side.

Can ChatGPT read Sponsored Messaging (InMail) results?

Yes, ChatGPT reads Sponsored Messaging results as Sends, Opens, Action Clicks and Ad Unit Clicks per campaign. Lead gen messages also add Lead Generation Mail Contact Info Shares, and ChatGPT gets open rate by dividing Opens by Sends.

Can ChatGPT read Insight Tag and Conversions API conversions?

Yes, ChatGPT reads Conversions, Post Click Conversions, Post View Conversions and Conversion Value In Local Currency by campaign. Conversions by conversion name cover the last 4 months and come without Spent, so you check cost per conversion action in Campaign Manager as usual.

Troubleshooting

Why don't ChatGPT's numbers match Campaign Manager?

ChatGPT's numbers can differ from Campaign Manager because audience breakdowns are approximate in both tools and today is a partial day. Over ranges longer than 6 months, LinkedIn rounds old daily data to whole months (LinkedIn's rounding of long date ranges), so totals can include extra days. Spent uses the account currency, while Cost In Usd is separate.

Why did a LinkedIn Ads question fail in ChatGPT?

Ask for one audience breakdown at a time per campaign, and the question goes through. LinkedIn refuses some query combinations, and Porter passes ChatGPT a general error without the reason. The refused combinations are two audience breakdowns at once, an audience breakdown with creatives, Reach by week, and conversion names with campaigns or Spent.

Why can't ChatGPT change my LinkedIn campaign?

Check that you're on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu, and ask your ad account admin for the Campaign Manager or Account Manager role. Viewer only reads, and Creative Manager edits ads rather than campaigns. If both are right, Porter hasn't enabled that ad account for changes yet, so LinkedIn answers "not configured to access the related advertiser account" without changing anything.
