How to connect PartnerStack to ChatGPT

PartnerStack connects to ChatGPT through Porter in 3 steps, with no code and no server to run. Connect your PartnerStack vendor account in Porter, add Porter’s MCP URL to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server, then ask your first question. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard ChatGPT uses to read data from tools such as Porter.

What you need before you start

You need a PartnerStack vendor account with its public and secret API keys, found under Settings, Integrations, PartnerStack API Keys (where PartnerStack keeps your API keys). Add a free Porter account and a ChatGPT plan that supports custom MCP servers.
Custom MCP servers are in beta in ChatGPT on the web, so set up Porter and ask your questions from a browser. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, an admin or owner turns on developer mode, and then ChatGPT can also make the changes you confirm. On Pro, you turn on developer mode yourself, and ChatGPT reads and recommends (OpenAI’s guide to custom MCP apps).
Works in ChatGPT on the web (chatgpt.com, custom MCP servers in beta) and in Codex, with the same Porter MCP URL.

Step 1: Connect PartnerStack in Porter
In Porter, choose Create, then ChatGPT, then PartnerStack, and enter your PartnerStack API keys.
Step 2: Add the connector to ChatGPT
In ChatGPT, open Customize › Plugins, click Add and choose Add custom MCP server. On Business, an admin does this from Workspace settings › Apps › Create. Name it Porter Metrics, paste this URL as the Server URL and keep OAuth as the authentication:

Step 3: Ask ChatGPT about PartnerStack
Next, select Continue to Porter Metrics, sign in to Porter and click Allow Access. Then select Try in chat and paste this prompt:

Each use case comes with a prompt to copy, the fields it uses from the PartnerStack fields list and who it’s for. Every prompt asks ChatGPT to convert cents and read all pages, since PartnerStack sends 10 records a page unless asked for more. Is it safe?

Yes, with two habits. ChatGPT writes to PartnerStack only on Business, Enterprise or Edu, and only the changes you confirm. Transactions and commissions you create stay in PartnerStack, where you remove them as usual, so run new write prompts with PartnerStack test keys before your production keys.

How ChatGPT asks before changing PartnerStack

ChatGPT can invite partners, update a partnership's group, manager, partner key or tier, create customers, record transactions and create manual commissions. ChatGPT asks you to confirm changes based on the app's permissions and holds back some high-risk actions for extra care. An invitation email is final once PartnerStack sends it, so invite with the email off when you want to check the list first.

Test with PartnerStack test keys first

Test keys mark every customer ChatGPT creates as a test customer, and PartnerStack gives each account a test partner with the key gstest. Transactions for test customers generate no commissions, so you can check a prompt end to end without paying anyone.

What the connector needs from PartnerStack

Porter needs your vendor account's public and secret API keys. Each key pair connects as its own account, so each program you add stays separate in ChatGPT.

Can I use Porter in Claude too?

Can affiliates and publishers use Porter's PartnerStack connection?

Porter connects to PartnerStack's Vendor API, which serves the company that runs the partner program and owns its partners, customers and commissions. Affiliates and publishers who earn commissions through PartnerStack read their own data through PartnerStack's separate Partner API.

Can I connect more than one PartnerStack partner program?

Yes. Each PartnerStack program has its own pair of API keys, and Porter keeps each key pair as a separate account that ChatGPT can read. Agencies that run partner programs for clients connect each client's program the same way and name the account when they ask.

How fresh is PartnerStack data in ChatGPT?

Why don't ChatGPT's numbers match PartnerStack?

ChatGPT's PartnerStack totals through Porter differ from the dashboard for 4 reasons. The dashboard shows link clicks and conversion rates that the API doesn't return. Commission totals change with the statuses you include, test customers never create commissions, and amounts come in cents until ChatGPT divides them.

Why does ChatGPT list only 10 PartnerStack partners?

PartnerStack returns 10 records per page unless the request asks for more, up to 250, so ChatGPT's first answer through Porter may stop early. Ask ChatGPT to read every page of results, and split long ranges by month so each request stays small.

Why did PartnerStack return a 429 error?

PartnerStack answers 429 when requests from one address pass PartnerStack's API rate limit of 4,000 requests per minute, so a burst of ChatGPT questions through Porter can hit it. Wait a minute, then ask again with a shorter date range or one group at a time.
