Security and trust

Safety and security

Porter’s WooCommerce MCP connects with a REST API key you create in your own store, and it asks before it changes anything. A Read key keeps the store reporting-only. A Read/Write key lets Claude propose product, coupon and order changes, and each one waits for your yes. Revoke the key in WooCommerce and access ends at once.

Reports change nothing

Sales, orders, products and coupons are reads. Asking about them leaves your store exactly as it is.

Approval before every change

Claude shows you the product, the price, the coupon rules or the order status first. Porter writes to your store only after you say yes.

Trash first, not gone

Products, orders and coupons Claude removes go to the WooCommerce trash by default, so you can restore them. Customer and category deletes are permanent, so Claude asks before either one.

A key with the access you choose

You create the key under WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → REST API and pick Read, Write or Read/Write, as WooCommerce’s guide to REST API keys explains. Pick Read when you only want reports.

Nothing stored between questions

Porter reads your store live on each question and keeps no copy of your orders. Every dashboard load asks your store again.

Revoke access anytime

Revoke the key in WooCommerce and Porter’s access ends at once. You can create a new key later with the access you choose.

Setup

How to set up WooCommerce MCP

Porter’s WooCommerce MCP uses one server URL in every AI client, plus a REST API key you create once in your store. Claude takes Porter as a plugin or a custom connector. ChatGPT takes it through the Porter Metrics app or developer mode. Nothing gets installed on your WordPress site.

WooCommerce’s own MCP

WooCommerce registers product and order abilities that AI clients reach through the MCP Adapter plugin, in developer preview (WooCommerce’s MCP developer docs). Remote stores connect through a local proxy on your computer and a WordPress Application Password. The WooCommerce AI extension adds a remote server through WordPress.com (WooCommerce’s guide to the WooCommerce AI MCP server).

Your first question, in either client:

For my WooCommerce store, show Report total sales, Report net sales, Report total orders and Report total refunds for last month.
Skills

WooCommerce skills

Each WooCommerce skill in Porter’s MCP is a ready-made prompt for one store job. A skill turns live store data into a sales report, a stock alert, a coupon check or a change waiting for your approval. Copy a prompt into Claude or ChatGPT, then change the dates, categories or codes to match your store.

Reporting skills

Connection test

For my WooCommerce store, show Report total sales, Report net sales, Report total orders and Report total refunds for last month.

Daily sales

Show Order grand total by Date for the last 30 days, and mark the days that fell below the 30-day average.

Best sellers and stock

Rank products by Product total sales with Product SKU and Product stock quantity. Flag best sellers with fewer than 10 in stock.

Coupon check

List coupons with Coupon code, Coupon discount type, Coupon usage count and Coupon expiration date. Flag codes that expire this month or were never used.

Refund reasons

For the last 60 days, show Refund amount by Refund reason, ranked by amount, with each reason’s share of the total.

Where buyers are

For last month, show Order grand total by Order country and Order state, top 10 first.

Store comparison

Compare every connected WooCommerce store by Report total sales, Report net sales and Report total orders for last month.

Research skills

Spend to sales

For the last 12 weeks, put weekly Meta Ads and Google Ads spend next to WooCommerce Order grand total by Week. Show spend per dollar of sales by week.

Traffic to sales

For last month, put GA4 Sessions by Session source / medium by Week next to WooCommerce Order grand total by Week. Flag weeks where traffic rose without sales.

Reviews and sales

Show Product average rating and Product rating count next to Product total sales for my top 20 products. Which well-selling products have weak ratings?

The research skills blend WooCommerce with your ad and analytics accounts, so connect Meta Ads, Google Ads or GA4 in Porter first.

Automation skills

Set a 15% sale price on the products in the Summer category. Show me old and new prices first, and update them only after I approve.

Launch a coupon

Create coupon DEMO15: 15% off, expires Sunday, one use per customer. Show me the rules first and create it only when I confirm.

Restock count

Order status cleanup

List orders still in processing after 3 days. I’ll pick the ones to mark as completed, and you update only those.

Weekly email

Build a WooCommerce dashboard with Order grand total by Week and Report net sales for last month, and email it to me every Monday at 8 a.m.
Who this is for

Who this is for

Porter’s WooCommerce MCP fits marketers who run a WooCommerce store and need sales, catalog and ad numbers in one conversation. Founders, agencies, paid media teams and marketing analysts use it to turn a store question into a report, a coupon or an approved product change, with no plugin on the site.

Marketers who sell on WooCommerce and report on it.

Small-business founders and DTC marketers

You don’t need another dashboard. You need to know what sold and what to restock before Monday’s order.

  • Morning check: yesterday’s sales and orders in one answer, before you open WordPress.
  • Best sellers with stock: you see which top product runs low while there’s time to reorder.
  • Coupons that work: usage counts tell you which code to run again.
  • Quick catalog edits: a sale price or a stock count goes live after you approve it.

Agencies and freelancers

  • Every client store in one chat: one prompt answers for all of them, with the store as a column.
  • Client reports: a live dashboard link the client opens on Monday, already current.
  • Store audits: expired coupons, low stock and stuck orders surface in one pass.
  • No plugin per client: one REST API key per store, nothing to install or update.

Paid media and growth marketers

  • Spend next to sales: Meta and Google Ads spend sits beside what the store sold.
  • Traffic quality: GA4 sessions by source next to orders, week by week.
  • Launch checks: the coupon and the sale price are ready before the campaign starts.

Marketing analysts

  • Field-level access: 414 named fields, so the number holds up in the meeting.
  • Numbers that reconcile: you know why gross and net sales differ before anyone asks.
  • Live reads: every answer comes from the store at the moment you ask.

When to use WooCommerce’s own instead

You build on WooCommerce and want an MCP that runs inside your WordPress site. WooCommerce’s MCP Adapter route covers that job, and you can run it next to Porter.

Comparison

WooCommerce’s MCP vs. Porter

WooCommerce’s own MCP runs through the MCP Adapter plugin on your site, in developer preview, with abilities to query and change products and orders. Porter is a hosted MCP that connects with a REST API key, reads several stores at once and puts your ads, analytics and email next to your sales.

WooCommerce’s MCP hands your AI your store. Porter’s MCP hands it your store next to everything that brings buyers to it.

Both read and edit products and orders, and both respect WooCommerce’s own permissions. Here is where they part.

Use WooCommerce’s own if you build plugins and want abilities that live in your site. Everything under Only one side is what happens when the store is one channel among several.

Which WooCommerce MCP do you need?

“WooCommerce MCP” names a few different setups. The job decides which one you want.

  • MCP Adapter with WooCommerce abilities: a free MCP Adapter plugin on your site, for developers and hands-on store owners.
  • WooCommerce AI MCP server: a remote server through WordPress.com, for stores with the WooCommerce AI extension.
  • WooCommerce for Claude: a WooCommerce project on GitHub that adds store analytics to Claude Desktop through the MCP Adapter.
  • Porter: your store next to your ads, analytics and email, hosted, in any MCP client.

And the third-party MCPs?

Plenty of them rank for this search, and they split three ways.

  • Plugin servers: they run inside your WordPress site and need updates like any plugin.
  • Open-source servers: free to download and yours to host. You keep the keys and patch them when WooCommerce changes.
  • Read-only servers: they answer questions and change nothing in the store.

Porter reads, reports and makes approved changes from one hosted server, starting on the free plan.

What it costs

Every Porter plan includes the WooCommerce MCP at no extra cost, the free-forever plan too. You pay for Reporting per connected data source account and for Automation by credits, and each WooCommerce store counts as one account. Write actions run inside your own Claude, ChatGPT or other MCP client. Full details are on Porter pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an official WooCommerce MCP?

Yes. WooCommerce exposes product and order abilities through the MCP Adapter plugin, in developer preview, and the WooCommerce AI extension adds a remote server through WordPress.com. Porter’s WooCommerce MCP runs at https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp, needs no plugin and puts your ads and analytics next to your store.

What is the WooCommerce MCP server URL?

Porter’s WooCommerce MCP server URL is https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp. Paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or another AI client as a custom connector, then connect your store with a REST API key. WooCommerce’s own route uses https://yourstore.com/wp-json/mcp/mcp-adapter-default-server on each store.

Is WooCommerce MCP free?

Porter includes its WooCommerce MCP in every plan, the free-forever plan too. The free plan connects unlimited stores, keeps up to 30 days of history (15 days in AI chats) and adds 100 automation credits a month. Paid Reporting starts at $12.50 a month per data source account, billed annually.

Do I need to install a plugin?

Not for Porter. Porter talks to WooCommerce’s built-in REST API with a key you create under WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → REST API. WooCommerce’s own MCP route needs the MCP Adapter plugin on your site and, for remote stores, a proxy running on your computer.

How do I connect Claude to WooCommerce?

Install the Porter plugin from Claude Settings → Customize → Plugins with the portermetrics/porter marketplace. Connect the Porter connector, ask Claude to connect your WooCommerce store and paste your store address, consumer key and consumer secret. Use the manual custom connector only when Claude asks for one.

Can I connect several WooCommerce stores?

Yes. Each store connects to Porter with its own REST API key and counts as one account. Claude queries them together in one question, with the store as a column, so agencies and brands with regional stores use one prompt for all of them.

What is MCP? Is MCP an agent?

MCP is the Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI applications to tools like WooCommerce. MCP isn’t the agent. Claude and ChatGPT are the agents, and Porter’s MCP is how they reach your store.

Troubleshooting

Why does every WooCommerce question fail?

Your store’s firewall is usually blocking Porter before WordPress answers. Cloudflare’s bot challenge and security plugins often block /wp-json/wc/v3/. Add a rule that lets that path through, such as a Cloudflare WAF skip rule, then ask again. A store that is down gives the same result.

Why don’t Claude’s numbers match WooCommerce?

Report total sales is gross and Report net sales takes out refunds and discounts, so pick the one your admin report shows. Dates follow your store’s timezone. Report fields total a whole period, so for a daily view ask for Order grand total by Date.

Why can’t Claude change a product?

Your REST API key is set to Read. Edit the key in WooCommerce → Settings → Advanced → REST API and switch it to Read/Write, or create a new key with that access and paste it into Porter. Reports keep working either way.
