Report on Stripe revenue from your favorite AI chat

Porter Metrics connects Stripe to Claude, ChatGPT and other AI clients through one MCP server built for revenue reporting. MCP is the Model Context Protocol, the open standard AI apps use to reach other tools. Ask what moved MRR, which churn to fix first or which campaign brought paying customers, and the answer comes from your live Stripe account.

Revenue and payments

  • Revenue after fees: Gross volume, Fees, Refunded amount, Disputed amount and Net revenue, in the same order as Stripe’s Balance report.
  • Cash to the bank: Payouts next to Net revenue, so the monthly report explains the gap.
  • Failed payments: Failed payments by Failure code and Card brand, with Payment success rate.
  • New vs returning buyers: Customer type splits revenue into New customer payment amount and Returning customer payment amount.
  • Revenue by product: Product revenue and Product units sold by Product name, from paid invoices.

Every metric and dimension Porter reads is in the Stripe fields list.

MRR, churn and subscriptions

  • A daily MRR series: Porter rebuilds MRR day by day from every subscription, with ARR, ARPU and Active subscribers. Check Stripe’s MRR definition in Billing analytics before you compare totals.
  • What moved MRR: New MRR, Expansion MRR, Contraction MRR, Churned MRR and Reactivation MRR, netted into Net new MRR.
  • Churn by cause: Voluntary churned MRR (the customer canceled) apart from Delinquent churned MRR (Stripe couldn’t collect).
  • Retention: Subscriber churn rate, Revenue churn rate and Net revenue retention over the trailing 30 days.
  • Trials and plans: Trialing subscriptions, Trial conversion rate and subscriptions by Plan.

Stripe next to your marketing

  • Ad spend next to new MRR: Meta Ads and Google Ads spend beside New MRR and New subscribers, week by week. Start with the Meta Ads MCP and the Google Ads connector for Claude.
  • Traffic next to new customers: GA4 Sessions by Session source / medium next to Stripe New customers, through the GA4 connector for Claude.
  • Pipeline next to revenue: HubSpot Deal amount won next to Stripe Net revenue, through the HubSpot connector for Claude.
  • Several Stripe accounts: each account connects with its own key, and Claude compares them in one answer.

Reports and alerts

  • Live dashboards: one link that stays current, with nothing to export. Start from the free SaaS dashboard templates.
  • Scheduled delivery: a dashboard emailed to you or your team on the day and hour you pick.
  • Weekly summary: what moved MRR, what churned and what to check next, written in the chat.
  • Live on every question: Porter reads Stripe when you ask, so no sync runs behind the numbers.
Reference

Stripe MCP reference

One server, every Stripe account: Porter connects Stripe to the AI clients, fields and workflows marketers already use. The same Porter server URL works in Claude, ChatGPT and any MCP client that supports remote servers. Porter reads Stripe’s API live with your restricted key, so a payment from this morning shows up in the next answer.

Porter keeps each currency apart, so Claude shows one row per Currency, and dates follow your Stripe Dashboard’s timezone. Each question reads one Stripe table, so MRR and payment numbers come back as two answers that Claude lines up by date.

Security and trust

Safety and security

Porter’s Stripe MCP connects with a restricted Stripe key you create and reports on your account without changing it. Claude reads charges, invoices and subscriptions while refunds, prices and plans stay exactly as you set them. You pick the permissions in Stripe, and you can revoke the key whenever you like.

Safe for live accounts

Every Stripe question is a report. Refunds, invoices, payment links and subscription changes stay in your Stripe Dashboard, where you handle them as usual.

A restricted key you create

In Stripe, set the Core and Billing groups to Read and leave every other group on None. Stripe’s guide to restricted API keys explains how each key carries only the permissions you give it.

The right key type

Porter rejects publishable pk_ keys. A full sk_live_ secret key works but grants everything, so Stripe’s API key best practices point to a restricted key instead.

Try a sandbox first

A restricted key from a Stripe sandbox starts with rk_test_, per Stripe’s API key prefixes. Claude answers on test data, and the Live mode field marks those rows 0. Connect a live rk_live_ key as its own account when the numbers look right.

Reporting priced per account

Reporting is billed per connected Stripe account. One more question about the same account adds nothing to the bill.

Nothing stored between questions

Porter reads Stripe live on each question and keeps no copy of your payment history. Every dashboard load reads Stripe again.

Revoke access anytime

Roll or delete the key in Stripe and Porter’s access ends at once. You can connect a new key later with the permissions you choose.

Setup

How to set up Stripe MCP

Porter’s Stripe MCP uses one server URL in every AI client, plus a restricted Stripe key you paste once. Claude takes Porter as a plugin or a custom connector. ChatGPT takes it through the Porter Metrics app or developer mode. Both read the same Stripe accounts, with the same fields.

Skills

Stripe skills

Each Stripe skill in Porter’s MCP is a ready-made prompt for one revenue question marketers get every week. A skill turns live Stripe data into a report, a churn diagnosis, a spend-to-revenue check or a scheduled email. Copy a prompt into Claude or ChatGPT, then change the dates, plans or currencies to fit your account.

Who this is for

Who this is for

Marketers who answer for revenue, not only for clicks, get the most from Porter’s MCP. SaaS marketers, growth marketers, marketing ops and small-business founders use it to turn a Stripe question into an MRR bridge, a churn split or a spend-to-revenue check in one chat.

Marketers who report on Stripe revenue next to the channels that bring it.

SaaS marketers

Your CMO isn’t asking about sign-ups. They’re asking what moved MRR this month.

  • MRR bridge: new, expansion, contraction and churn in one answer before the board update.
  • Churn by cause: card failures apart from cancellations, so each fix goes to the right place.
  • Trials that convert: trial conversion by plan, next to the campaigns that brought the trials.
  • Monday email: the MRR dashboard arrives without anyone building it.

Growth and performance marketers

  • Spend to new MRR: Meta and Google Ads spend beside the subscribers Stripe billed.
  • Cost per new customer: by week, from Stripe, not from the ad platform’s own conversions.
  • Traffic to revenue: GA4 sessions by source next to new customers.
  • Budget talks: they start from what paid, not from what clicked.

Marketing ops

  • Field-level access: 352 named fields, so every report uses the same definitions.
  • Numbers that reconcile: you know why gross volume, payments and invoices differ before anyone asks.
  • One table per question: currencies and timezones kept as Stripe records them.
  • Live dashboards: one link per report, with no export to rebuild.

Small-business founders

  • Plain answers: last month’s revenue after fees, refunds and disputes in one line.
  • Payout check: why the bank deposit differs from sales.
  • No setup work: one restricted key and nothing to host.
  • A calm account: Claude reports while your Stripe account stays as you set it.

When to use Stripe’s own instead

You want an assistant to issue refunds, create invoices or payment links, or help build a Stripe integration. Stripe’s own server covers those jobs, and you can run it next to Porter.

Comparison

Official Stripe MCP vs. Porter

Stripe hosts its own MCP server at mcp.stripe.com, in public preview, with read and write tools over the Stripe API. Stripe’s guide to analyzing data with AI adds an analytics tool for metrics such as MRR and churn. Porter covers revenue reporting and adds your marketing data, live dashboards and scheduled emails.

Stripe’s MCP hands your AI the Stripe API. Porter’s MCP hands it your revenue next to everything that brings customers in.

Both are hosted, both read charges, invoices and subscriptions, and both answer MRR questions. Here is where they part.

Use Stripe’s own if you want an assistant to move money or build on Stripe. Porter’s rows under Only one side are what happens when revenue is one number among your marketing results. Both servers can sit in the same Claude account.

Which Stripe MCP do you need?

“Stripe MCP” names a few different setups. The job decides which one you want.

  • Stripe’s hosted server: agents that read and act on your Stripe account.
  • Stripe’s agent plugins: coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor get Stripe’s server and skills in one step, per Stripe’s agent plugins.
  • Porter: your Stripe revenue next to your ads, analytics and CRM, in any MCP client.

And the third-party Stripe MCPs?

Plenty of them rank for this search, and they split three ways.

  • Unified-API gateways: they wrap Stripe behind their own schema, sign-in and billing.
  • Revenue analytics servers: they read Stripe metrics into the chat, usually Stripe alone.
  • Open-source servers: free to download and yours to host. You keep the key and patch it when Stripe changes the API.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an official Stripe MCP?

Yes. Stripe hosts its MCP server at https://mcp.stripe.com in public preview, with read and write tools, refunds that wait for human confirmation and an analytics tool for metrics like MRR. Porter’s Stripe MCP runs at https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp and puts Stripe revenue next to your ads, GA4 and CRM. You can connect both in Claude.

What is the Stripe MCP server URL?

Porter’s Stripe MCP server URL is https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp, and Stripe’s own server is https://mcp.stripe.com. Paste one into Claude, ChatGPT or another AI client as a custom connector. Porter’s route takes a restricted Stripe key in Porter, while Stripe’s signs in with OAuth or an agent API key.

Is the Stripe MCP free?

Porter’s Stripe MCP is included in every Porter plan, the free-forever plan too. The free plan covers unlimited connected accounts, up to 30 days of history, 15 days in AI chats and 100 automation credits a month. Paid Reporting starts at $12.50 a month per data source account, billed annually, and the 14-day trial needs no card.

Can it issue refunds or change subscriptions?

Porter reports on refunds, disputes and subscriptions, and you issue refunds or change plans in your Stripe Dashboard as usual. That keeps your live account exactly as you set it. When you want an assistant to issue the refund itself, Stripe’s own server does that with a human confirmation step.

Can I connect several Stripe accounts?

Yes. Each Stripe account connects with its own restricted key and bills as one account. Claude compares them in one answer, so agencies and brands with regional accounts ask once. A Connect platform adds each connected account with its own key, the same way.

Does Porter convert currencies?

Porter keeps every Stripe amount in its own currency, so Claude shows one row per Currency and keeps dollars and euros apart. If you need one total, give Claude an exchange rate and it converts the rows. Stripe’s Billing analytics converts MRR to one currency, so its totals read differently.

How do I connect Claude to Stripe?

Install the Porter plugin from Claude Settings → Customize → Plugins. Add the portermetrics/porter marketplace, install Porter Metrics from the Directory and paste your restricted Stripe key when the connector asks. Then ask Claude for last month’s MRR.

What is MCP? Is MCP an agent?

MCP is the Model Context Protocol, an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems like Stripe. MCP isn’t the agent. Claude and ChatGPT are the agents, and Porter’s MCP is how they reach your Stripe accounts.

Troubleshooting

Why don’t the numbers match Stripe?

Stripe counts the same business on three clocks. Gross volume counts when money moves, payments when the charge is created (failed attempts too) and invoices when they’re created. Dates follow your Dashboard’s timezone, so UTC exports shift days. Porter rebuilds MRR from subscriptions, so it reads close to Billing analytics, not to the cent.

Why does Claude say a Stripe permission is missing?

Edit the restricted key in Stripe and add Read on the resource Claude names, with no need to reconnect. A 403 error means the key lacks Read on one Stripe resource. A 401 means the key was rolled or deleted, so create a new key and paste it into Porter.

Why is a long Stripe question slow or incomplete?

Ask by month for long ranges. Porter reads Stripe live within Stripe’s API rate limits, so a wide range on a busy account takes time and can come back cut short. Monthly questions keep each pull complete, and Claude adds the months together.
