Capabilities

Run Mailchimp end to end from your favorite AI chat

Porter Metrics gives Claude, ChatGPT and other AI clients one Mailchimp MCP server for campaign reporting and day-to-day account work. MCP is the Model Context Protocol, the open standard AI apps use to reach other tools. Ask about a campaign, an audience or a subscriber, and the answer comes from your live Mailchimp account.

Porter reads campaign reports, audiences, contacts, tags, templates and automations, then drafts, schedules and sends campaigns when you say so. The Claude-specific setup lives on the Mailchimp connector for Claude page.

Campaign and audience reporting

  • Opens, clicks and unsubscribes: E-mails sent, Campaign open rate, Campaign click rate, Campaign bounces and Unsubscribed for every sent campaign.
  • Industry benchmarks: each campaign next to Industry open rate, Industry click rate and Industry bounce rate for your account’s industry.
  • A/B split results: Opens A, Opens B, Clicks A and Clicks B, so you see which subject line or send time won.
  • Audience health: List total members, List all-time open rate, cleaned and unsubscribed members, and the last time each audience was mailed.
  • Subscriber value: Member open rate, Member number of orders and Member total revenue for the contacts who buy.

Each metric and dimension Porter reads is in the Mailchimp fields list.

Campaigns, audiences and contacts

  • Drafts: regular, plain-text or A/B campaigns built on your saved template, with audience, segment, subject line, preview text and sender set.
  • Edits: change a draft’s subject line, audience, segment or tracking before it goes out.
  • Send or schedule: once you approve, the campaign goes out now or at the time you set.
  • Audiences and segments: create or rename audiences, and build segments from a list of emails or from conditions.
  • Contacts: add, update, tag or delete contacts, each change after you confirm.

Revenue and attribution

  • Email next to the store: Mailchimp E-commerce total revenue beside Shopify Orders and Gross Sales, through the Shopify connector for Claude.
  • Email next to the site: GA4 Sessions by Session source / medium and Session campaign from the GA4 connector for Claude, lined up with each send.
  • Email next to paid: ad spend from the Meta Ads MCP beside the revenue your campaigns bring in.
  • One table per question: Claude puts each source’s numbers side by side by campaign or by week, so the email report and the ads report read the same way.

Reports and alerts

  • Weekly email report: sends, opens, clicks and revenue, with what changed and what to try next.
  • Live dashboards: one link that stays current. Start from the free Mailchimp dashboard templates.
  • Scheduled delivery: a dashboard emailed to you or a client on the day and hour you pick.
  • Routines: a check that runs on its own schedule, like an audience that stopped growing or a campaign with a high bounce rate.
Reference

Mailchimp MCP reference

One server, every client account: Porter connects Mailchimp to the AI clients, fields and workflows email marketers already use. The same Porter server URL works in Claude, ChatGPT and any MCP client that supports remote servers. Porter’s Mailchimp actions call Mailchimp’s API directly, so a campaign sent this morning shows up in the next answer.

Rates come back as fractions, so 0.25 means 25%; ask Claude to show them as percentages. Campaign numbers belong to the campaigns sent in your date range, counted since each send. Mailchimp’s API rate limits allow 10 simultaneous connections and a 120-second timeout per call.

Security and trust

Safety and security

Porter’s Mailchimp MCP signs in with Mailchimp’s own login, saves every new campaign as a draft and asks before anything reaches subscribers. Reporting, drafting, sending and contact changes are separate actions. An AI client working through Porter touches only as much of your Mailchimp account as the task needs and you approve.

Reporting first

Ask about campaigns, audiences and contacts without writing anything back to Mailchimp. Reporting runs apart from changes, so a campaign question never edits a draft.

Reporting priced per account

Reporting is billed per connected Mailchimp account. One more question about the same account adds nothing to the bill.

Mailchimp sign-in, no API key

Porter connects with Mailchimp’s OAuth sign-in. You never create an API key, look up your data-center prefix or paste a secret into a chat.

Drafts by default

New campaigns land in Mailchimp as drafts. You review the content, audience and send time in Mailchimp or in the chat, and only drafts can be edited.

Sends and schedules after you approve

Sending or scheduling a campaign is permanent once it goes out. Claude shows you the campaign, its audience and its time, and asks before it calls the send.

Deletes flagged as permanent

Deleting a draft, an audience or a contact can’t be undone, so Claude asks first. Deleting an audience removes its contacts, a deleted segment keeps them, and Mailchimp’s note that a permanently deleted contact can’t be re-imported applies to contacts.

Subscriber data through Mailchimp’s API

Porter reads contacts through Mailchimp’s API with the sign-in you gave it. The examples on this page use demo data, never a real subscriber.

Revoke access anytime

Revoke Porter in Mailchimp and its access ends. Mailchimp’s OAuth guide explains that access stays valid until you revoke it or the user who connected is removed from the account.

Setup

How to set up Mailchimp MCP

Porter’s Mailchimp MCP uses one server URL in every AI client, plus a Mailchimp sign-in you complete once. Claude takes Porter as a plugin or a custom connector. ChatGPT takes it through the Porter Metrics app or developer mode. Both reach the same Mailchimp accounts.

Official Mailchimp MCP server URLs

Mailchimp publishes two MCP server URLs, and neither one reads your marketing account:

https://mailchimp.com/developer/_mcp/server https://mandrillapp.com/mcp

The first searches Mailchimp’s developer documentation, as Mailchimp’s developer MCP page states. The second serves Mailchimp Transactional (formerly Mandrill) with a Transactional API key, per Mailchimp’s Transactional MCP guide. Mailchimp’s campaign-planning connector is added from Claude’s directory, not by URL. Use Porter’s URL for campaign reports, audiences and contacts.

Skills

Mailchimp skills

Each Mailchimp skill in Porter’s MCP is a ready-made prompt for one email marketing job. A skill turns live Mailchimp data into a report, a benchmark check, a draft or a tagging plan. Copy a prompt into Claude or ChatGPT, then change the dates, audiences or thresholds to fit your account.

Who this is for

Who this is for

Email marketers who report on Mailchimp every week get the most from Porter’s MCP. Agencies, e-commerce marketers, small business owners and analysts use it to turn a Mailchimp question into a ranked report, a draft or a tagged segment in one chat.

Email marketers who need the numbers, not just the next draft.

Email marketing agencies

Your client isn’t asking about open rates. They’re asking which emails made money this month.

  • Every client account: each client’s Mailchimp answers in the same chat, instead of a login per client.
  • Client reports: the monthly email recap is ready before the call starts.
  • Benchmarks on hand: “Is that good?” gets Mailchimp’s industry numbers as the answer.
  • Drafts at scale: a brief becomes a draft campaign in each account, waiting for review.

E-commerce marketers

  • Revenue by campaign: email next to Shopify orders, so you know which sends paid.
  • Best customers: contacts with the most orders get their own tag and segment.
  • Store and site in one view: GA4 sessions from each campaign beside its revenue.
  • Send timing: schedules land on the quarter hour you pick, after you approve.

Small business owners

  • Plain answers: what you sent, what worked and what to send next, without opening each report.
  • Audience clean-up: stale audiences and bounced contacts get flagged before the next send.
  • No setup work: a Mailchimp sign-in, with no API key and nothing to host.
  • A weekly email: the dashboard arrives on Monday without anyone building it.

Analysts

  • Field-level access: 200+ ready-made fields across campaigns, audiences and contacts.
  • Honest opens: click rate next to open rate, since Apple machine opens inflate opens.
  • Warehouse destinations: Mailchimp data in BigQuery as rows you can query.
  • Other sources: email, store, site and ads compared in one table.

When to use Mailchimp’s own instead

You want Claude to plan and design the next campaign inside one account, or you send transactional email. Mailchimp’s campaign-planning connector and its Transactional MCP cover those jobs well.

Comparison

Official Mailchimp MCP vs. Porter

Mailchimp offers three official AI routes, and each covers a different job. The Intuit Mailchimp connector in Claude’s directory plans, designs and saves campaign drafts. The Transactional MCP serves Mandrill email, and the developer MCP searches documentation. Porter adds campaign reporting, audiences and every other channel.

Mailchimp’s own connector helps your AI build the next email. Porter’s MCP tells it how every email did, next to the store, the site and the ads.

All three are hosted, and both Porter and Mailchimp’s connector save drafts to your account. Here is where they part.

Use Mailchimp’s own if you want campaign plans and layouts in one account, or you send transactional email. Everything under Only one side is what happens when the job is reporting across campaigns and channels. Both connectors can sit in the same Claude account.

And the third-party Mailchimp MCPs?

Plenty of them rank for this search, and they split three ways. The job tells you which one you’re looking at.

  • Gateways: they wrap Mailchimp’s API behind their own sign-in and billing.
  • Open-source servers: free to download and yours to host. The API key sits in a local file, and you patch it when Mailchimp changes the API.
  • Reporting connectors: they read Mailchimp into the chat and write nothing back.

Porter reports, drafts and sends from one hosted server, across every Mailchimp account you connect, starting on the free plan.

What it costs

Every Porter plan includes the Mailchimp MCP at no extra cost, the free-forever plan too. Porter bills Reporting per connected data source account, and each Mailchimp account counts as one. Automation is billed by credits. Changes to Mailchimp run inside your own Claude, ChatGPT or other MCP client. Full details are on Porter pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Does Mailchimp have an official MCP server?

Yes, three official routes, each for a different job. The Intuit Mailchimp connector in Claude plans and saves campaign drafts, the Transactional MCP serves Mandrill email, and the developer MCP searches Mailchimp’s documentation. Porter’s Mailchimp MCP at https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp reports on campaigns and audiences next to your other sources.

What is the Mailchimp MCP server URL?

Porter’s Mailchimp MCP server URL is https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp. Mailchimp’s Transactional MCP is https://mandrillapp.com/mcp, and its docs server is https://mailchimp.com/developer/_mcp/server. Paste one into Claude, ChatGPT or another AI client as a custom connector. The URL decides which server answers, whatever client you use.

Is the Mailchimp MCP free?

Porter’s Mailchimp MCP is included in every Porter plan, the free-forever plan too. The free plan covers unlimited connected accounts, up to 30 days of history, 15 days in AI chats and 100 automation credits a month. Paid Reporting starts at $12.50 a month per data source account, billed annually, and the 14-day trial needs no card.

Can the Mailchimp MCP send campaigns?

Yes. Porter saves new campaigns as drafts, then sends or schedules one when you approve it in the chat. Send times follow Mailchimp’s quarter-hour scheduling rule, and sending is permanent once it goes out, so Claude shows you the campaign and its audience first.

Can it write or design the email?

Porter builds the draft on a template you already saved in Mailchimp, with the audience, subject line and sender you choose. You design the email in Mailchimp’s editor as usual, or with Mailchimp’s own connector in Claude. You can add both in Claude: Porter for results, Mailchimp’s connector for the next layout.

Can I connect several Mailchimp accounts?

Yes. Connect each client’s Mailchimp account with its own sign-in, and every one answers in the same chat. Ask about one account at a time, or have Claude put their results side by side. Reporting is billed per connected Mailchimp account, and the free plan connects unlimited accounts.

How do I connect Claude to Mailchimp?

Install the Porter plugin from Claude Settings → Customize → Plugins. Add the portermetrics/porter marketplace, install Porter Metrics from the Directory and sign in to Mailchimp when the connector asks. Then ask Claude for your latest campaigns.

What is MCP? Is MCP an agent?

MCP is the Model Context Protocol, an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems like Mailchimp. MCP isn’t the agent. Claude and ChatGPT are the agents, and Porter’s MCP is how they reach your Mailchimp accounts.

Troubleshooting

Why don’t the numbers match Mailchimp?

Porter returns rates as fractions, so 0.32 means 32%; ask Claude to show percentages. Campaign numbers cover campaigns sent in your date range, counted since each send, not activity inside the range. Mailchimp’s Apple Mail Privacy Protection FAQ explains why opens run high, so compare campaigns by click rate.

Why can’t Claude see my account?

Claude sees only the Mailchimp accounts connected to Porter. Access ends when someone revokes Porter in Mailchimp or the user who connected leaves the account. Reconnect Mailchimp in Porter with a user who still has access, then ask Claude to list your audiences.

Why are some audience fields empty?

List all-time open rate, List click rate and List average subscriptions per month come from Mailchimp’s own calculations. Mailchimp leaves them out until it has enough sends to calculate them, so a new audience shows them empty. Size fields like List total members still report.
