How to connect Apple Ads to ChatGPT

Porter’s Apple Ads connector for ChatGPT takes 3 steps, with no code or server. Connect your Apple Ads organization in Porter, add one MCP URL to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server, then ask. The Apple Ads to ChatGPT setup guide has more screenshots. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard ChatGPT uses to connect to tools.

What you need first

  • Before you start, you need an Apple Ads Advanced account and an API user invited by an account admin. You also need a free Porter account and a ChatGPT plan that supports custom MCP servers. Under Apple’s Apple Ads user roles, API Account Manager gets read and write access, while API Account Read Only gets reporting access. If you want ChatGPT to make changes, you need the first role.
  • Custom MCP servers are in beta in ChatGPT on the web, so set up Porter and ask your questions from a browser. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, an admin or owner turns on developer mode, and then ChatGPT can also make the changes you confirm. On Pro, you turn on developer mode yourself, and ChatGPT reads and recommends (OpenAI’s guide to custom MCP apps).
  • Works in ChatGPT on the web (chatgpt.com, custom MCP servers in beta) and in Codex, with the same Porter MCP URL.
  1. Step 1: Connect Apple Ads in Porter

Sign up free at Porter, then pick Apple Ads as the source and enter your API user’s credentials. Pick the organization ChatGPT should read, then pick ChatGPT as the destination.

  2. Step 2: Add the Apple Ads connector to ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, open Customize › Plugins, click Add and choose Add custom MCP server. On Business, an admin does this from Workspace settings › Apps › Create. Name it Porter Metrics, paste this URL as the Server URL and keep OAuth as the authentication:

    MCP URL
    https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp

Tick “I understand and want to continue”, then select Create as a plugin.

  3. Step 3: Ask ChatGPT about Apple Ads

Next, select Continue to Porter Metrics, sign in to Porter and click Allow Access. Then select Try in chat and paste this prompt:

    Prompt
List my Apple Ads organizations and show Spend, Taps, Installs (Total) and Avg CPA (Total) by Campaign Name for the last 7 full days.

02Use cases and prompts

What you can ask ChatGPT

Here are 8 things to try. Each use case comes with a prompt to copy, the fields it uses from the Apple Ads fields list and who it’s for. Every prompt asks about one level at a time (campaigns, ad groups, keywords, search terms or ads), because that’s how Apple Ads reports. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, ChatGPT can also make the changes you confirm; on Pro it reads and recommends.

Can ChatGPT find the Apple Ads keywords that bring installs at the lowest CPA?

The problemYour keyword list keeps growing, while some keywords spend all week without a single install.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT ranks every bidded keyword by cost per install, with its match type and bid, then flags keywords that spend without installs. As a result, you see at a glance where to raise or cut bids.

What you getYour keyword review starts from a ranked list instead of an export, and spend without installs stops hiding in the long tail.

Prompt
For the last 30 days, by Keyword, Match Type and Ad Group Name (Keyword), show Keyword Bid Amount, Spend, Impressions, Taps, TTR, Avg CPT, Installs (Total) and Avg CPA (Total). Rank the 20 keywords with the most Spend by Avg CPA (Total) and list keywords with more than $50 Spend and 0 Installs (Total).

For: app marketers · in-house UA managers · agencies (one organization per question; add App Name for multi-app accounts)

Can ChatGPT turn search terms into exact-match keywords and negatives?

The problemThe search terms report is full of App Store queries you never bid on. But moving the good ones to exact match by hand takes all afternoon.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT lists the App Store searches that showed your ads, then flags two groups. Some terms install under your CPA target, while others get taps without installs. Once you confirm, it adds the winners as exact-match keywords and the losers as campaign negatives.

What you getYour weekly search-term harvest becomes one prompt, and the new keywords and negatives also go in from the same chat.

Prompt
For the last 30 days, by Search Term, Search Term Source, Keyword (Search Term), Match Type (Search Term) and Ad Group Name (Search Term), show Spend, Taps, Installs (Total) and Avg CPA (Total). Leave out the row with an empty Search Term. List terms with Avg CPA (Total) under $3 and at least 5 installs that aren't exact keywords yet, and terms with 20+ Taps and 0 installs.
Then ask
Prompt
Add the first list as exact-match keywords in the same ad group at $1.20, and the second list as exact negatives on the campaign. Show me each one before you add it.

Can ChatGPT tell if Search Match is worth the spend?

The problemSearch Match keeps matching your ads to searches you didn’t pick, and you can’t tell whether it finds installs or just runs up your CPT.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT compares ad groups with Search Match on and off by spend, taps and installs, as well as CPA and conversion rate. Then it can turn Search Match off or lower an ad group’s default bid.

What you getYou decide on Search Match per ad group from CPA and conversion rate instead of a hunch.

Prompt
For the last 30 days, by Ad Group Name and Search Match, show Default Bid Amount, Spend, Taps, Installs (Total), Avg CPA (Total) and CR (Total). Compare the totals for Search Match on vs off and list ad groups with Search Match on whose Avg CPA (Total) is 30% above the account average.
Then ask
Prompt
Turn Search Match off on those ad groups. List them first and wait for my OK.

Are installs new users or redownloads, from taps or views?

The problemYour install count looks healthy, but some of it may be lapsed users coming back, and you can’t tell what a new user really costs.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT splits each campaign’s installs into tap-through and view-through, and also into new downloads and redownloads. Then it works out the cost of each new download, so re-installs don’t flatter your CPA.

What you getYou get a cost for new users only, since that’s the number worth setting CPA goals against.

Prompt
For the last 30 days, by Campaign Name, show Spend, Installs (Tap-Through), Installs (View-Through), Installs (Total), New Downloads (Total) and Redownloads (Total). Calculate the share of redownloads and the cost per new download (Spend ÷ New Downloads (Total)) for each campaign.

Can ChatGPT tell if the ads or product page dropped installs?

The problemInstalls fell this week while your bids stayed put, and you can’t tell whether the ads or the App Store product page let you down.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT compares weeks by campaign: if impressions and taps held while conversion rate fell, suspect the product page, not the bids. A follow-up prompt then ranks your ads (default and custom product pages) by tap-to-install rate.

What you getYou know whether to work on bids or on the product page before you touch either.

Prompt
For the last 6 weeks, by Week and Campaign Name, show Impressions, Taps, TTR, Avg CPT, Installs (Total) and CR (Total). For campaigns where Installs (Total) fell more than 20% week over week, tell me whether Impressions, TTR or CR (Total) fell most.
Then ask

Can ChatGPT pace Apple Ads spend and change budgets, bids and status?

The problemYour best campaign hits its daily budget by mid-afternoon while a weaker one never spends, and CPT keeps creeping up on both.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT reads daily spend by campaign, gets each campaign’s daily budget from Apple Ads, then projects the month. Then it can change a campaign’s daily budget or status, or an ad group’s default bid, CPA goal or status. Keyword bids stay in Apple Ads, where you set them.

What you getBudget moves to the capped campaign that’s earning installs, instead of month end telling you which one starved.

Prompt
This month, by Date and Campaign Name, show Spend, Installs (Total) and Avg CPA (Total). Then list my campaigns with their daily budgets. Using the last 7 days' average Spend, which campaigns will spend more than 90% of their daily budget every day, and which spend less than 50%?
Then ask
Prompt
Raise by 20% the daily budget of the best-CPA campaign that's hitting its cap, and pause the campaign with the worst Avg CPA (Total). Show me both changes before you make them.

Can ChatGPT build a campaign from a brief?

The problemLaunching in a new country means rebuilding the campaign, ad group, exact-match keywords and negatives by hand in the Apple Ads dashboard.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT creates the campaign for your app in the countries you name, including a daily budget, once you confirm. Then it adds an ad group with a default bid, CPA goal and Search Match setting, your exact-match keywords and campaign negatives.

What you getCountry, ad group, keywords and negatives come from one prompt, so your time goes into checking the setup, not typing it.

Prompt
Create a paused search results campaign 'US – Brand' for my app {app name} in the United States with a $50 daily budget. Add one ad group 'Brand exact' with a $1.50 default bid, Search Match off, and the exact-match keywords {keyword 1}, {keyword 2}, {keyword 3}. Add {competitor} as a campaign negative. Show me each item before you create it.

Actions: organization_list · campaign_create · adgroup_create · keyword_create · negativekeyword_create · read-back campaign_list · adgroup_list

Can ChatGPT compare cost per install with Meta Ads app campaigns?

The problemYour Meta app campaigns and Apple Ads count installs in different ways, and you still have to decide where next month’s app budget goes.

What ChatGPT doesWhen both platforms are in Porter, ChatGPT asks each one separately, then lines up spend, installs and cost per install by campaign. You then see where the next dollar of app budget installs cheapest.

What you getBoth channels land in one cost-per-install table, so the budget split starts from numbers, not from whichever dashboard is open.

Prompt
For the last 30 days, show my Apple Ads Spend and Installs (Total) by Campaign Name, then my Meta Ads Amount spent and App installs by Campaign name. Calculate cost per install for every campaign, put both platforms in one table, and tell me which three campaigns should get more budget.

03Why Porter

Why Porter for Apple Ads in ChatGPT

Apple publishes no MCP server for ChatGPT (as of October 2026), so Porter runs on Apple’s own API and you host nothing. If you also want an AI agent for keyword bid changes, keyword pauses, ads or impression share, a community server such as ppcprophet/apple-ads-mcp on GitHub, or your own build on Apple’s API, is the route for those.

✓

One URL, nothing to host

Add one MCP URL to ChatGPT on the web and Porter runs the rest. You skip the key pair, the client secret and the 1-hour tokens a build on Apple’s API needs.

⊞

Read and change campaigns

ChatGPT reads 120+ fields and, on Business, Enterprise or Edu, makes the campaign, ad group, keyword and negative changes you confirm. On Pro it reads and recommends. New campaigns start paused, and an API user with a reporting-only role keeps ChatGPT to questions.

⚙

120+ ready-made fields

ChatGPT gets named fields for keywords, search terms, ads and installs by type, new downloads included. Prompts ask one level at a time, so totals match Apple’s reports.

Aa

Daily history past Apple's 90 days

Apple’s API serves daily reports only 90 days back. Porter serves older days from its own store, with daily rows back to January 2024 on a tested account, so ChatGPT compares this year with last.

↻

Apple Ads next to your other channels

Ask about Apple Ads next to Meta Ads, Google Ads and GA4 in the same chat, so budget calls between platforms don’t need a spreadsheet first.

✓

One connection, every destination

One Apple Ads organization connected in Porter also feeds Claude and Data Studio at no extra cost, so you don’t reconnect for each tool.

⊞

Live dashboards, not only chat answers

Ask ChatGPT for a dashboard and Porter’s AI dashboards publish it at its own link, synced automatically and ready to share. Official MCP servers answer inside the chat and stop there.

Can ChatGPT create, pause or change Apple Ads campaigns?

On Business, Enterprise and Edu plans, yes, after you confirm. ChatGPT creates campaigns for an app in the countries you choose, with a daily budget. Then it creates ad groups with a default bid, CPA goal, dates and Search Match. It adds keywords with match type and bid, as well as campaign negative keywords. ChatGPT also pauses, resumes and deletes campaigns and ad groups.

It also changes names, daily budgets, default bids, CPA goals, end dates and Search Match. On Pro, ChatGPT reads the account and lists the changes for you to make. Keyword bid changes, keyword pauses or deletes, negative removals, ads and custom product pages stay in Apple Ads, where you manage them as usual.

How fresh is the data, and how far back?

Porter fetches data when you ask. Today's numbers come back marked as an incomplete day, so ask for full days. So far, Porter has returned daily data back to January 2024 on a tested account. The free plan reads 15 days in AI chats (30 days in Data Studio and Sheets), but paid plans have no history cap.

07Security

Is it safe?

Yes, with confirmations. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, ChatGPT changes Apple Ads only after you confirm, and on Pro it reads and recommends. Deleting a campaign or ad group is permanent, so pausing is the safer fix. Porter works with the access your API user already has, so a reporting role keeps ChatGPT to questions.

How confirmations work

ChatGPT asks you to confirm changes based on the app's permissions and holds back some high-risk actions for extra care. New campaigns start paused when ChatGPT creates them through Porter, and you check each delete before you confirm it. Keyword edits beyond adding keywords stay in Apple Ads. Each completed change uses one AI credit, so bulk changes count per item.

What the ChatGPT connector needs from Apple Ads

You need an Apple Ads Advanced organization, as well as an API user invited by an account admin. API Account Read Only is enough for questions, but changes need a read and write role, or Apple rejects the request. One API user can reach several organizations, and its client secret lasts up to 180 days (Apple's OAuth guide: API roles and the 180-day client secret).

08FAQ

FAQ

The first five answers cover the name change, Claude and agencies, as well as reusing a Porter connection and Apple's API change. The last three help when numbers or questions look wrong, each with the check to run first.

Is Apple Search Ads the same as Apple Ads?

Yes. Apple Ads, formerly Apple Search Ads, is the same platform, renamed on April 14, 2025 as its ads grew beyond App Store search (Apple's announcement of the Apple Ads name). Campaigns, keywords and the API stayed the same, so Porter covers accounts under both names.

Can I use Porter in Claude too?

Yes. Porter's MCP URL, the same one behind the Apple Ads connector for ChatGPT, also works in Claude as a custom connector, so your prompts move between tools unchanged. See Porter's Apple Ads connector for Claude for the Claude setup and what it covers.

Can I connect several Apple Ads organizations or apps, like an agency?

Yes. One Apple Ads API user can reach every organization it's invited to, and each organization connects to Porter as one account, billed once. Add App Name as a column to compare apps inside an organization, then Org ID to compare organizations.

I already send Apple Ads to Data Studio with Porter. Do I need to reconnect?

No. One Apple Ads organization connected in Porter feeds every Porter destination, including ChatGPT, at no extra cost. If you already use Porter's Apple Ads connector for Data Studio (formerly Looker Studio), add the MCP URL to ChatGPT and start asking.

What happens when Apple retires the Campaign Management API in January 2027?

Apple sunsets Campaign Management API v5 on January 26, 2027 and points developers to the Apple Ads Platform API. Porter reads and writes your App Store campaigns through v5 today, while Apple Maps campaigns run on Apple's newer API.

Troubleshooting

Why don't ChatGPT's numbers match the Apple Ads dashboard?

Compare full days in your organization's time zone, and ChatGPT's Apple Ads numbers through Porter should line up with the dashboard. "Installs" means tap-through plus view-through, and today is still an incomplete day. Search terms report in your organization's time zone, and terms with 10 impressions or fewer sit in one unnamed row (Apple's search term reporting rules).

Why does ChatGPT return no data for my Apple Ads account?

Check that your account signs in through Apple Ads Advanced and that an admin invited the API user to the right organization, then reconnect Apple Ads in Porter. ChatGPT returns no Apple Ads data through Porter when the account is Apple Ads Basic or the API user has no access to that organization.

Why did an Apple Ads question fail in ChatGPT?

Ask one level at a time, and ChatGPT reads budgets and CPA goals from your campaign and ad group lists. An Apple Ads question fails when it mixes levels, since campaign fields don't combine with keyword fields. It also fails with Budget Amount, Total Budget, CPA Goal, Target CPA, Suggested Bid Amount or Ad Serving Status, so ChatGPT uses the lists for those.
