How to connect StackAdapt to ChatGPT

Porter’s StackAdapt connector for ChatGPT is a no-code chat integration: 3 steps, so there’s nothing to install or host. Add your API key in Porter, add Porter’s URL to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server, then sign in and ask. Porter’s ChatGPT MCP setup guide also has screenshots of every step.

What you need

  • Before you start, you need a StackAdapt API key, a free Porter account and a ChatGPT plan that supports custom MCP servers. There’s no self-serve key page, so ask your StackAdapt account team (StackAdapt’s API docs on API keys).
  • Custom MCP servers are in beta in ChatGPT on the web, so set up Porter and ask your questions from a browser. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, an admin or owner turns on developer mode; on Pro, you turn on developer mode yourself (OpenAI’s guide to custom MCP apps).
  • Works in ChatGPT on the web (chatgpt.com, custom MCP servers in beta) and in Codex, with the same Porter MCP URL.
  1. Step 1: Connect StackAdapt in Porter

Sign up free at Porter, then pick StackAdapt as the source and paste the API key. Pick the advertisers ChatGPT should read, then pick ChatGPT as the destination.

  2. Step 2: Add the connector to ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, open Customize › Plugins, click Add and choose Add custom MCP server. On Business, an admin does this from Workspace settings › Apps › Create. Name it Porter Metrics, paste this URL as the Server URL and keep OAuth as the authentication:

    MCP URL
    https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp

Tick “I understand and want to continue”, then select Create as a plugin.

  3. Step 3: Ask ChatGPT about StackAdapt

Next, select Continue to Porter Metrics, sign in to Porter and click Allow Access. Then select Try in chat and paste this prompt:

    Prompt
For my StackAdapt advertisers, show Cost, Impressions, Clicks, CTR and Conversions by Campaign for the last 7 days, with each advertiser's Currency.

02Use cases and prompts

What you can ask ChatGPT

Each use case comes with a prompt to copy, the fields it uses from the StackAdapt fields list and who it’s for. The prompts keep one currency per total and stay at the levels Porter reads, namely advertiser, campaign group, campaign, ad or channel.

Can ChatGPT find which channel converts cheapest?

The problemNative looks cheap on CPM, while CTV looks great on completion. Still, nobody can say which one brings the cheapest conversion.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT splits cost and conversions by channel, then ranks native, display, video and CTV by eCPA, with eCPM and CTR next to it. As a result, you see where a conversion costs least.

What you getYou walk into the budget conversation with cost per conversion by channel instead of a CPM argument.

Prompt
For the last 30 days, by Campaign Channel and Currency, show Cost, Impressions, eCPM, Clicks, CTR, Conversions and eCPA. Rank channels by eCPA and tell me which channel to move budget toward first.

For: agency programmatic buyers · in-house B2B and demand-gen marketers

Can ChatGPT find campaigns that spend without converting?

The problemA campaign group keeps spending, but most of what it reports is view-through, so you’re not sure the conversions are worth the cost.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT lists active campaigns by campaign group, including cost, conversions and eCPA. It also splits click-through from view-through conversions and flags the campaigns spending most for the fewest conversions. Conversions from all your StackAdapt conversion trackers come summed into one total per campaign.

What you getYou then know which campaigns to question in the next optimization call, and how much of their result rests on view-through.

Prompt
For the last 14 days, for campaigns with Campaign State ACTIVE, by Campaign Group and Campaign, show Cost, Conversions, Click Conversions, Impression Conversions, eCPA and ROAS. Flag the five campaigns with the highest Cost and the fewest Conversions, and say how much of their Conversions are Impression Conversions.

Can ChatGPT show which video and CTV ads viewers finish?

The problemCTV impressions cost more than most. An ad that loses viewers before the midpoint wastes a lot of that spend.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT ranks video and CTV ads by video completion rate, then shows where viewers drop off across the quartiles. It also puts cost and eCPV next to each ad.

What you getYour creative team then gets a recut list, ad by ad, based on where viewers drop.

Prompt
For last month, for Campaign Channel Video and CTV, by Ad, show Impressions, Video Starts, Video Q1 Playbacks, Video Q2 Playbacks, Video Q3 Playbacks, Video Completions, Video Completion Rate, Cost and eCPV. Show the five ads with the best Video Completion Rate and the five with the worst, and the quartile where each loses most viewers.

Can ChatGPT compare fees and margins across advertisers?

The problemMonth-end client reporting means checking fees such as ad serving, targeting and viewability advertiser by advertiser, each in its own currency.

What ChatGPT doesChatGPT puts each advertiser’s cost and fee lines next to revenue, profit, margins and rCPM, while keeping one row per advertiser in its own currency. An agency fee and margin check then takes one question.

What you getThe monthly fee and margin review becomes one question instead of a spreadsheet per client.

Prompt
For last month, one row per Advertiser with its Currency, show Impressions, Cost, CPD Media Cost, Ad Serving, Targeting, Viewability Fee, Enterprise Features, Revenue, Profit, Margins and rCPM. Don't add amounts across currencies. Flag advertisers whose Margins fell versus the month before.

Is StackAdapt cheaper per conversion than Google Ads?

The problemLeadership asks whether programmatic converts as cheaply as search, and the two platforms never sit in the same report.

What ChatGPT doesFirst connect Google Ads in Porter through the Google Ads connector for ChatGPT, if it isn’t there yet. ChatGPT then lines up cost, impressions, conversions and cost per conversion by platform and campaign for the same dates. Each platform counts conversions with its own tracking, so the two totals can overlap.

What you getStackAdapt gets judged on cost per conversion in the same way as search, with one table to back it up.

Prompt
For the last 30 days, side by side by platform and campaign: StackAdapt Campaign, Cost, Impressions, Conversions and eCPA; Google Ads Campaign, Cost, Impressions, Conversions and Cost / conv. Use one currency and tell me which platform's campaigns convert cheapest.

For: performance marketers running programmatic and search · agencies

Can ChatGPT pause or change StackAdapt campaigns?

ChatGPT gives you the exact change list, campaign by campaign, and you make each change in StackAdapt in a few clicks. Porter reads StackAdapt, so your campaigns, budgets and targeting stay exactly as you set them.

How far back can ChatGPT read StackAdapt?

Porter queries StackAdapt by day when you ask. From November 2, 2026, StackAdapt's REST reporting will refuse data older than two years (StackAdapt's REST v2 deprecation notice). Porter's paid plans, though, have no history cap of their own.

Is it safe?

Yes. The connector uses the API key you add, and ChatGPT talks to Porter instead of StackAdapt. You also choose which advertisers ChatGPT sees.

Cut access anytime

Remove the key in Porter, or ask your StackAdapt account team to rotate it.

What the connector needs from StackAdapt

Porter needs just one API key, so ask your StackAdapt account team for it. The key reaches every advertiser it can see, and each one then becomes a separate Porter account.

08FAQ

FAQ

Four questions people ask before connecting cover what StackAdapt is, Claude, agencies with many advertisers and other destinations. The last 3 help when numbers don't match, results come back empty or a breakdown is missing.

What is StackAdapt used for?

StackAdapt is an AI advertising platform and also the source Porter brings into ChatGPT. In short, it's a demand-side platform for buying native, display, video, connected TV and audio ads. Brands and agencies organize campaigns in advertisers, campaign groups, campaigns and ads. StackAdapt's assistant Ivy and its own MCP server also bring that data into StackAdapt's tools and AI apps.

Can I use Porter in Claude too?

Yes. Porter's MCP URL, the same one behind the StackAdapt connector for ChatGPT, also works in Claude as a custom connector, with the same API key and advertisers. See Porter's StackAdapt connector for Claude for the Claude setup and what it covers.

Can an agency connect several StackAdapt advertisers?

Yes. Connect as many StackAdapt advertisers as you like, then ChatGPT compares them with Advertiser as a column. As a result, you ask one question across every client. Porter bills each connected advertiser only once, since one subscription covers all your clients.

Can I also send StackAdapt data to Sheets, Data Studio, BigQuery or Power BI?

Yes. One StackAdapt advertiser connected in Porter feeds every destination at no extra cost, including ChatGPT, a Sheet, a Data Studio report or a BigQuery table. If you need them, see Porter's marketing data connectors for Google Sheets and marketing data connectors for BigQuery.

Troubleshooting

Why don't ChatGPT's numbers match StackAdapt?

ChatGPT's StackAdapt numbers usually differ for 4 reasons. StackAdapt labels each day in UTC, while your campaign may run in its own timezone, so compare by week or month. Amounts also stay in each advertiser's currency. Besides, Campaign State and Campaign Status filter differently. Finally, conversions from every tracker are summed.

Why does ChatGPT show no StackAdapt data or no advertisers?

Re-enter the API key in Porter, select the advertiser, or ask for a level or period with delivery. ChatGPT shows no StackAdapt data when the key was rotated or revoked, or the advertiser isn't selected in Porter. On Porter's free plan, ranges past the history limit also come back empty.

Why can't ChatGPT split results by audience, geo, device or hour?

Use StackAdapt's insights reports for audience, demographic, geo, device, supply source, deal, domain and hourly splits. In ChatGPT, Porter splits StackAdapt results by advertiser, campaign group, campaign, ad, channel and day, so ask at those levels and ChatGPT ranks and compares them for you.
