Run X Ads end to end from your favorite AI chat

Porter Metrics connects X Ads, formerly Twitter Ads, to Claude, ChatGPT and other AI clients through one MCP server. MCP is the Model Context Protocol, the open standard AI apps use to reach other tools. Ask which posts earn engagement, which ad groups miss your cost per click or what drove last week’s spend, and the answer comes from your live ad account.

Campaign management

  • Campaigns and ad groups: create, edit or delete them, with objective, placements, bid, daily or total budget and schedule.
  • Promoted posts: write a promoted-only post as the ad creative, or promote a post you already published.
  • Pause and resume: change the status of any campaign or ad group, and change budgets, bids and end dates.
  • Setup lookups: funding instruments and targeting options such as locations, interests and platforms.
  • Multi-account and cross-channel: every ad account your X login reaches, next to Meta and Google Ads. Start with the Meta Ads MCP.

Reporting and engagement

  • 330 fields: delivery, engagement, video, conversion and audience breakdowns, all in the X Ads fields list.
  • Engagement that costs: Engagements, Engagement rate and Cost per engagement (CPE) next to Link clicks and Cost per link click.
  • Followers: Follows, Follow rate and Cost per follow for follower campaigns.
  • Video: Video views, 6s video views and the 25%, 50% and 75% marks through Video completions.
  • Who sees it: results by Age, Gender, Country, Platform, Placement and Keyword.

Conversions and app installs

  • Website conversions: Web purchases, Web purchases (Sale amount), Web sign ups and Site visits.
  • View and engagement credit: post-view and post-engagement versions of each conversion, such as Web purchases (Post view).
  • Apps: Mobile installs, App clicks and Cost per app click.
  • Leads: Leads, Lead rate and Cost per lead.

X next to your marketing

  • X next to Meta and Google: spend, clicks and conversions by platform in one table, with the Google Ads MCP beside Meta.
  • Traffic next to spend: GA4 sessions by source next to X Spend, through the GA4 connector for Claude.
  • Pipeline next to spend: HubSpot deals next to X Spend by month, through the HubSpot MCP.

Reports and alerts

  • Live dashboards: one link that stays current. Start from the free X Ads dashboard templates.
  • Scheduled delivery: a dashboard emailed to you or a client on the day and hour you pick.
  • Weekly summary: what moved spend, which posts earned engagement and what to check next, written in the chat.

X Ads MCP server reference

One server, every X ad account: Porter connects X Ads to the AI clients, fields and workflows paid social teams already use. The same Porter server URL works in Claude, ChatGPT and any MCP client that supports remote servers. Porter’s X actions call the X Ads API with your X sign-in, so Claude reads campaigns, ad groups and promoted posts as they stand right now.

Security and trust

Safety and security

Porter’s X Ads MCP signs in with X, creates new campaigns and ad groups paused and asks before anything changes in Ads Manager. Reporting, lookups and drafting are separate from changes. An AI client working through Porter touches only as much of your X ad account as the task needs and you approve.

Reporting first

Ask about campaigns, posts and results without writing anything back to X. Reporting runs apart from changes, so a spend question never edits an ad group.

Paused by default

Porter creates campaigns and ad groups paused, and Claude shows you the plan before it calls the create. Turn them on when you’re ready: campaign first, then ad group.

Budgets checked before they apply

Claude shows the new daily or total budget in your account currency and waits for your yes. Nothing spends until you approve the change and turn the campaign on.

Promoted-only posts stay off your timeline

Posts Claude writes as ad creatives are promoted-only, so followers don’t see them on your profile. X keeps them once made, so to stop one running, Claude removes it from the ad group instead.

Deletes are permanent

Deleting a campaign, an ad group or a promoted post can’t be undone. Claude asks first, so pause rather than delete when you might want it back.

X sign-in, no developer app

X’s own Ads MCP asks you to register an app in the X Developer Console and add Ads API access, per X’s Ads MCP docs. Porter handles that part, so you sign in with X and pick the ad accounts.

Your X role decides what changes

Claude works only with the ad accounts your X login can reach, and only within the access your user has on each one. You pick the accounts when you sign in.

Reporting priced per account

Reporting is billed per connected X ad account. One more question about the same account adds nothing to the bill.

Setup

How to set up the X Ads MCP server

Porter’s X Ads MCP uses one server URL in every AI client, plus an X sign-in you complete once. Claude takes Porter as a plugin or a custom connector. ChatGPT takes it through the Porter Metrics app or developer mode. Both reach the same X ad accounts.

Prompts

X Ads MCP prompts

Each X Ads skill in Porter’s MCP is a ready-made prompt for one job an X advertiser does every week. A skill turns live ad account data into a report, an engagement check, a cross-channel answer or a paused draft. Copy a prompt into Claude or ChatGPT, then change the dates, accounts or thresholds to fit yours.

Reporting skills

Connection test

List my X Ads ad accounts and show Spend, Impressions, Link clicks and Engagements by Campaign name for the last 7 full days. Calculate CPM and CPE yourself.

Posts that earn engagement

For the last 30 days, by Tweet text, show Spend, Impressions, Engagements, Engagement rate, Link clicks and Cost per link click. Rank the 15 promoted posts with the most Spend and flag the ones below the account’s Engagement rate.

Ad group cost check

For the last 30 days, by Campaign name and Ad Group name, show Spend, Link clicks, Cost per link click and Web purchases. Flag ad groups whose Cost per link click runs more than 20% above the account’s.

Video drop-off

For the last 14 days, by Ad Group name, show Video views, 6s video views, Video played 25%, Video played 50%, Video played 75% and Video completions. Show where each video loses people.

Conversions and sales

For the last 8 weeks, by Week and Campaign name, show Spend, Web purchases, Web purchases (Sale amount) and Web purchases (Post view). Calculate return on spend from Sale amount and explain how much of it came from views.

Audience breakdown

For the last 30 days, show Spend, Link clicks and Web purchases by Age. Then run the same table by Gender and by Platform, and list segments that spend without converting.

Client account comparison

Compare every ad account by Account Name with Spend, Engagements, Link clicks and Cost per link click for the last 30 days, worst first.

Research skills

X next to Meta and Google

Compare my X Ads, Meta Ads and Google Ads accounts for the last 30 days: spend, clicks and conversions by platform and campaign.

Spend to sessions

For the last 8 weeks, put X Spend by Week next to GA4 sessions from x.com and t.co by Week. Flag weeks where spend rose without more sessions.

Spend to pipeline

For the last 6 months, put X Spend by Month next to HubSpot deals created and deal amount won by Month.

Keyword and interest ideas

Look up X targeting interests and locations for ‘B2B SaaS’ and ‘marketing analytics’, and list the ones that fit a campaign aimed at marketers in the United States.

The research skills blend X with your ad, analytics and CRM accounts, so connect Meta Ads, Google Ads, GA4 or HubSpot in Porter first.

Automation skills

Pause weak ad groups

From the ad group cost check, pause the ad groups I approve, and list each one before you change it.

Budget pacing

This month, by Date and Campaign name, show Spend. Project month-end Spend from the last 7 days and propose new daily budgets, but don’t apply them until I approve.

Campaign from a brief

Create a paused Website Clicks campaign with a $40 daily budget on my main funding instrument, plus one paused ad group on ALL_ON_TWITTER with automatic bidding. Write a promoted-only post from the copy I paste next and promote it in that ad group. Show me everything first.

Promote a post that’s working

Promote my post at the link I paste next in the ad group I name, and show me the change before you make it.

Weekly report by email

Build an X Ads dashboard with Spend, Engagements, Link clicks and Cost per link click by Campaign name, and email it to me every Monday at 8 a.m.

Monthly client recap

On the 1st of every month, email my client a dashboard with last month’s Spend, Engagement rate, Web purchases and Cost per link click by campaign.
Who this is for

Who this is for

Paid social teams who build X campaigns as well as report on them get the most from Porter’s MCP. Agencies, paid social managers, B2B and SaaS growth marketers and app marketers use it to turn an X question into a ranked report, a paused draft or a dashboard in one chat.

For marketers who report on X and then act on it.

Agencies and freelancers

Your client isn’t asking about impressions. They’re asking whether X earned its slice of the budget.

  • Every client account: one question across every ad account your X login reaches, with Account Name as a column.
  • Client reports: a live dashboard the client opens on Monday that nobody rebuilt.
  • Launch drafts: a brief becomes a paused campaign, waiting for review.
  • Cross-channel: X next to Meta and Google Ads in the same answer.

Paid social managers

  • Pacing: month-end spend projected while there’s still time to move budget.
  • Weak ad groups: high cost per click flagged before it eats another week.
  • Creative check: the promoted posts that earn engagement, ranked.
  • Quick changes: pause, resume or re-budget from the chat, after your yes.

B2B and SaaS growth marketers

  • Sign-ups and leads: Web sign ups and Cost per lead by campaign.
  • Pipeline: X spend next to HubSpot deals.
  • View credit: how much of a conversion came from a view, before you defend the budget.
  • Traffic: GA4 sessions next to spend, week by week.

App marketers

  • Installs: Mobile installs and Cost per app click by campaign.
  • Platform split: results by Platform, so iOS and Android costs sit side by side.
  • Video: where viewers drop off before the install.
  • Weekly email: the dashboard arrives every Monday without anyone building it.

When to use X’s own instead

You run X only and want custom audiences, conversion pixels, website cards or media uploads from the chat. X’s server covers those jobs, and you can run it next to Porter.

Comparison

Official X Ads MCP vs. Porter

X’s own X Ads MCP and Porter’s MCP both connect X ad accounts to AI clients. X’s Ads MCP docs describe 74 tools for reads, analytics, targeting, audiences, creatives and campaign writes, created paused. Porter covers the core X job without a developer app and adds every other channel, dashboards and scheduled reports.

X’s MCP hands your AI the whole X Ads toolbox. The Porter MCP hands it the marketing job: every channel, the reporting and skills that already know the work.

Both are hosted, use one URL and create campaigns and ad groups paused. Here is where they part.

X MCP or X Ads MCP?

Most servers called “X MCP” or “Twitter MCP” post, search and read tweets for a personal or brand account. They answer what people say on X, not what your ads did.

  • X and Twitter MCP servers: post, reply and search tweets, usually through X’s main API.
  • X Ads MCP servers: read and change your ad accounts through the X Ads API.
  • Porter: your X Ads results and campaign changes next to your other channels, in any MCP client.

And the third-party X Ads MCPs?

Plenty of them rank for this search, and they split three ways. The job tells you which one you’re looking at.

  • Reporting connectors: they read X Ads data into the chat and write nothing back.
  • Campaign controllers: they create and edit, usually as drafts you approve.
  • Open-source servers: free to download and yours to host. You keep the token and patch it when X changes the API.

Porter does reporting and approved changes from one hosted server, starting on the free plan.

X Ads MCP pricing

The X Ads MCP is included in every Porter plan, the free-forever plan too. Reporting is billed per connected account.

  • 14-day trial: everything unlimited, no credit card.
  • Free forever: unlimited connected accounts, 30 days of history (15 days in AI chats), 100 automation credits a month.
  • Paid Reporting: from $15 per account a month, or $12.50 billed annually.
  • Unlimited questions: AI chats, queries and dashboards are included. Reads are free; each completed change uses 1 automation credit.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an official X Ads MCP?

Yes. X hosts the X Ads MCP at https://ads-api.x.com/mcp, with 74 tools and setup recipes for Grok and Claude Code. It needs your own X developer app. Porter's X Ads MCP runs at https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp, signs in with X and adds your other channels and dashboards. Both can sit in Claude.

What is the X Ads MCP server URL?

Porter's X Ads MCP server URL is https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp. X's own server uses https://ads-api.x.com/mcp. Paste one into Claude, ChatGPT or another AI client as a custom connector. Porter's asks you to sign in with X, while X's asks for your app's OAuth 2.0 Client ID first.

Is the X Ads MCP free?

Porter's X Ads MCP is included in every Porter plan, the free-forever plan too. The free plan covers unlimited connected accounts, up to 30 days of history, 15 days in AI chats and 100 automation credits a month. Paid Reporting starts at $12.50 a month per data source account, billed annually, and the 14-day trial needs no card.

Is this the same as Twitter Ads?

Yes. X Ads is the ad platform formerly called Twitter Ads, at ads.x.com. Some fields still carry the old names, like Tweet text and Retweets. Claude reads them the same way, so a Twitter Ads question works with the same prompts.

Can it post to my X timeline?

Porter's X Ads MCP writes promoted-only posts for ads, which stay off your timeline and your followers' feeds. To post, reply or search tweets from your profile, use an X MCP server built on X's main API, next to Porter in the same Claude account.

Can I connect several X ad accounts?

Yes. One X login brings every ad account that user can reach, and you pick the ones Claude should use. Claude compares them in one answer with Account Name as a column. Reporting is billed per connected ad account, and the free plan connects unlimited accounts.

How do I connect Claude to X Ads?

Install the Porter plugin from Claude Settings → Customize → Plugins. Add the portermetrics/porter marketplace, install Porter Metrics from the Directory and sign in with X when the connector asks. Then ask Claude for your X ad accounts.

What is MCP? Is MCP an agent?

MCP is the Model Context Protocol, an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems like X Ads. MCP isn't the agent. Claude and ChatGPT are the agents, and Porter's MCP is how they reach your X ad accounts.

Troubleshooting

Why don't the numbers match X Ads Manager?

Check the dates and the field first. Impressions, Link clicks and Video views include earned results that X doesn't bill, so they can run above what you paid for. Conversions split into total, post-view and post-engagement versions. Ask Claude for the same version Ads Manager shows.

Why can't Claude add an image or video to my ad?

Upload the image or video to your X media library, or build the website card, in X Ads Manager first. Claude then writes a promoted-only post with text and attaches that existing media or card. Text-only promoted posts work straight from the chat.

Why did creating an ad group fail?

Check three things. Every campaign needs a funding instrument, which Claude lists for you. Every ad group in a campaign shares one objective and product type. The placement has to fit that objective, so ALL_ON_TWITTER is the safe choice for promoted posts.
