Capabilities

Ask about your YouTube channel from your favorite AI chat

Porter Metrics connects your YouTube channel’s analytics to Claude, ChatGPT and other AI clients through one MCP server. MCP is the Model Context Protocol, the open standard AI apps use to reach other tools. Ask which videos grew watch time, where viewers found you or how Shorts compare with long videos, and the answer comes from your channel.

Views and watch time

  • The basics in one answer: Views, Estimated Minutes Watched, Average View Duration (s) and Average Percentage Viewed by day or by video.
  • Engagement: Likes, Comments, Shares and Videos Added to Playlists next to the views behind them.
  • YouTube Premium: YouTube Premium Views and YouTube Premium Minutes Watched as their own columns.

Videos and Shorts

  • Top videos: every video with Video Title, Video URL, Video Published Date and its views and watch time for the range.
  • Shorts vs long videos: Content Type splits shorts, videoOnDemand and liveStream, so each format gets its own row.
  • Publishing pace: Video Published Date counts what went live each week next to what it earned.

Subscribers and audience

  • Growth: Subscribers Gained and Subscribers Lost by day, plus Subscribers (Total) as today’s snapshot.
  • Where viewers come from: Traffic Source shows YouTube search, suggested videos, external links and subscribers.
  • How they watch: Device Type, Operating System, Playback Location and Subscribed Status.
  • Countries: Views by Country, Minutes Watched by Country and Subscribers Gained by Country for the whole range.

Every metric and dimension Porter reads is in the YouTube fields list.

YouTube next to your marketing

  • YouTube next to Instagram and Facebook: views and followers by platform in one table, through the Instagram MCP and the Facebook Insights MCP.
  • Video to site visits: YouTube views next to GA4 sessions from youtube.com, through the Google Analytics 4 MCP.
  • Several channels: every channel you connect, with Channel Name as a column.

Reports and dashboards

  • Live dashboards: one hosted link that stays current. Start from the free YouTube dashboard template.
  • Scheduled delivery: a dashboard emailed to you or a client on the day and hour you pick.
  • Weekly summary: which videos moved watch time, where new viewers came from and what to post next, written in the chat.

One server, every channel you manage: Porter connects YouTube to the AI clients, fields and workflows marketing teams already use. The same Porter server URL works in Claude, ChatGPT and any MCP client that supports remote servers. Porter reads Google’s YouTube Analytics API with your Google sign-in, so you never create a Cloud project or paste a key.

Same channel in other tools: all MCP connectors

YouTube finalizes each day’s numbers after a short delay, so the last two or three days fill in later. Country rows cover the whole date range, not single days, and countries under YouTube’s privacy threshold don’t appear.

Security and trust

Safety and security

Porter’s YouTube MCP signs in with Google and reports on your channel without changing it. Claude reads views, watch time, subscribers and traffic sources while videos, titles, playlists and comments stay exactly as you set them. You can disconnect Porter whenever you like.

Safe for live channels

Every YouTube question is a report. Uploads, title edits, playlists and comment replies stay in YouTube Studio, where you handle them as usual.

Google’s quota, handled

Google gives each project 10,000 YouTube Data API units a day. Porter runs the project and the sign-in, so you never request quota.

Reporting priced per channel

Reporting is billed per connected YouTube channel. One more question about the same channel adds nothing to the bill.

Revoke access anytime

Disconnect YouTube in Porter, or remove Porter from your Google account permissions, and access ends. Connect again later whenever you like.

Setup

How to set up YouTube MCP

Porter’s YouTube MCP uses one server URL in every AI client, plus a Google sign-in you complete once. Claude takes Porter as a plugin or a custom connector. ChatGPT takes it through the Porter Metrics app or developer mode. Both read the same YouTube channels, with the same fields.

Is there an official YouTube MCP server URL?

Google hasn’t published its own YouTube MCP server as of November 2026. What Google offers is the YouTube Data API and the YouTube Analytics API, which every YouTube MCP server builds on, plus Ask Studio inside YouTube Studio. Use Porter’s URL above for a hosted server you sign into with Google, next to your other channels.

YouTube skills

Each YouTube skill in Porter’s MCP is a ready-made prompt for one question a channel team asks every week. A skill turns live channel data into a top-videos list, a traffic source check, a cross-channel answer or a scheduled email. Copy a prompt into Claude or ChatGPT, then change the dates, channels or thresholds to fit yours.

Reporting skills

Connection test

List my YouTube channels and show Views, Estimated Minutes Watched, Subscribers Gained and Subscribers Lost by Date for the last 28 full days.

Top videos

For the last 90 days, list my 20 videos with the most Estimated Minutes Watched, with Video Title, Video Published Date, Views, Average View Duration (s) and Average Percentage Viewed.

Shorts vs long videos

For the last 90 days, show Views, Estimated Minutes Watched and Subscribers Gained by Content Type. Tell me which format brings more subscribers per 1,000 views.

Where viewers come from

For the last 28 days, show Views and Estimated Minutes Watched by Traffic Source, then explain which sources grew against the 28 days before.

Watch time drop

Compare the last 28 days with the 28 days before: Views, Estimated Minutes Watched and Average View Duration (s) by Date. Tell me whether watch time fell because of fewer views or shorter views.

Subscriber growth

For the last 6 months, show Subscribers Gained and Subscribers Lost by Date, grouped by month, and the net change each month. Add today’s Subscribers (Total).

Top countries

For the last 90 days, show Views by Country, Minutes Watched by Country and Subscribers Gained by Country, one row per Country. List the top 10 countries.

Device and playback

For the last 28 days, show Views and Estimated Minutes Watched by Device Type. Then run the same table by Playback Location.

Research skills

YouTube next to Instagram and Facebook

For the last 30 days, compare YouTube Views and Subscribers Gained with Instagram reach and new followers and Facebook Page reach, in one table by platform.

Video to site visits

For the last 8 weeks, put YouTube Views by week next to GA4 sessions where the session source is youtube.com, by week. Flag weeks where views rose without more sessions.

Best publishing pattern

For videos published in the last 6 months, show Video Published Date, Video Duration (s), Views and Average Percentage Viewed. Tell me which video lengths hold viewers best.

Subscribers vs new viewers

For the last 28 days, show Views and Estimated Minutes Watched by Subscribed Status, and tell me how much of my watch time comes from people who aren’t subscribed yet.

Who this is for

Who this is for

Marketers who report on YouTube next to the rest of their channels get the most from Porter’s MCP. Social media managers, agencies, content marketers and analysts use it to turn a channel question into a top-videos list, a traffic source check or a weekly report in one chat.

For marketers who report on YouTube next to their other channels.

Social media managers

Your boss isn’t asking about one video. They’re asking whether YouTube is worth the editing hours.

  • Watch time: which videos earned it, ranked in one prompt.
  • Shorts vs long videos: which format brings subscribers.
  • YouTube next to Instagram and Facebook: one table, one answer.
  • Conversations: Comments next to Views per video, so you see which videos get people talking.

Agencies and freelancers

  • Every client channel: one question across channels, with Channel Name as a column.
  • Client reports: a live dashboard the client opens on Monday that nobody rebuilt.
  • Monthly recap: the numbers arrive by email on the day you pick.
  • Weak spots: the videos with the lowest Average Percentage Viewed, ready to rework in YouTube Studio.

Content and video marketers

  • Discovery: how much comes from search, suggested videos and outside links.
  • Retention signals: Average Percentage Viewed by video and by length.
  • Publishing pace: what went live each week next to what it earned.
  • Saves: Videos Added to Playlists by video, so you see what viewers keep.

Analysts

  • Field-level access: the same field labels in chat, dashboards and scheduled reports.
  • Questions in words: no API calls, report types or quota to manage.
  • Breakdowns: device, country, playback location and subscriber status in one question each.
  • Blends: YouTube views next to GA4 sessions by week.

When to use another route

You want to read any public video’s transcript, search YouTube or study a competitor’s channel. A transcript or search server covers that job, and you can run it next to Porter.

Comparison

Which YouTube MCP do you need?

“YouTube MCP” names a few different setups, and Google itself hasn’t published one as of November 2026. Most servers read public videos: transcripts, search results and comments. Porter covers your own channel’s analytics from one hosted server, plus dashboards and scheduled emails.

A transcript server hands your AI what a video says. Porter’s MCP hands it how your channel performs, next to everything else you run.

Both use Google’s YouTube APIs. Here is where they part.

YouTube transcript MCP or YouTube analytics MCP?

Most servers called “YouTube MCP” fetch transcripts and search public videos. They answer what a video says, not how your channel performed.

  • Transcript and search servers: read captions, search results and public comments, often without a sign-in.
  • Analytics servers: read the channels you own or manage, with your Google sign-in.
  • Porter: your channel analytics next to your other channels, in any MCP client.

And YouTube ads?

Porter’s YouTube MCP reads your channel, not your ad accounts. YouTube ad spend, views and conversions come from Google Ads, so ask through the Google Ads MCP on the same server. Programmatic YouTube buys show up in Display & Video 360.

And the third-party YouTube MCPs?

Plenty of them rank for this search, and they split three ways.

  • Transcript and search tools: free, public data only, usually run on your own machine.
  • Creator research tools: keyword and outlier data from a vendor’s own index, priced in credits.
  • Open-source channel servers: free to download and yours to host. You keep the Cloud project and patch it when Google changes the API.

Porter reads your channel next to your marketing from one hosted server, starting on the free plan.

What it costs

Every Porter plan includes the YouTube MCP at no extra cost, the free-forever plan too. Porter bills Reporting per connected data source account, and each YouTube channel counts as one. Channel questions are reads, so they use no automation credits. Full details are on Porter pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an official YouTube MCP?

Google hasn’t published its own YouTube MCP server as of November 2026. Google offers the YouTube Data API and the YouTube Analytics API, and every YouTube MCP builds on them. Porter’s YouTube MCP runs at https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp, signs in with Google and puts your channel next to your other channels.

What is the YouTube MCP server URL?

Porter’s YouTube MCP server URL is https://mcp.portermetrics.com/mcp. Paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or another AI client as a custom connector, then sign in with the Google account that manages your channel. The same URL also reaches your Instagram, Facebook and GA4 accounts in Porter.

Is the YouTube MCP free?

Porter’s YouTube MCP is included in every Porter plan, the free-forever plan too. The free plan covers unlimited connected accounts, up to 30 days of history, 15 days in AI chats and 100 automation credits a month. Paid Reporting starts at $12.50 a month per data source account, billed annually, and the 14-day trial needs no card.

Do I need a YouTube API key?

No. You sign in with the Google account that owns or manages the channel, and Porter handles the API project and quota. A self-built server usually asks you to create a Google Cloud project and an API key or OAuth client before it reads anything.

Can I connect several YouTube channels?

Yes. Connect each channel you manage, and Claude compares them in one answer with Channel Name as a column. Reporting is billed per connected channel, and the free plan connects unlimited accounts.

Does it read YouTube video transcripts?

Porter reads your channel’s analytics: views, watch time, subscribers and traffic sources. Transcripts of public videos are a job for a transcript MCP server, and you can run one next to Porter in the same Claude account.

How do I connect Claude to YouTube?

Install the Porter plugin from Claude Settings → Customize → Plugins. Add the portermetrics/porter marketplace, install Porter Metrics from the Directory and sign in with Google when the connector asks. Then ask Claude for your YouTube channels.

What is MCP? Is MCP an agent?

MCP is the Model Context Protocol, an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems like YouTube. MCP isn’t the agent. Claude and ChatGPT are the agents, and Porter’s MCP is how they reach your YouTube channel.

Troubleshooting

Why don’t the numbers match YouTube Studio?

Check the dates first. YouTube fills in the last two or three days later, so recent totals still move. Breakdowns by device, traffic source or country can land slightly below the channel total, because YouTube leaves out rows under its privacy threshold.

Why can’t I see country by day?

YouTube reports country numbers for the whole date range only. Ask for Views by Country over the period, then ask a second question by Date for the trend. Claude lines the two answers up for you.
